The team is based out of Fenton, Michigan with our members coming from Hartland, Linden, Flint and Fenton. This year at the state level we placed 8th overall, had a perfect score in programming all while placing 3rd on the playing field and winning Robot Design to boot. As a team we upload videos on YouTube about our robot designs. With over 60,000+ hits our videos offer inspiration and ideas worldwide. Our project this year is the “Taste Fresh Test Strips”, a process in which diluted sulfur infused cotton can test the freshness of food by sensing methane gas emitted from rotting food. We love FLL and do our best to include our Core Values such as teamwork, friendship, loyalty, respect, discovery, gracious professionalism, coopertition—cooperative competition—and more into our daily lives.

Brief Submission Description:
The Taste Fresh Test Strips are something that are so simple to create and easy to use. When meat starts to spoil, it gives off methane gases. With thousands of people who get ill every year from eating spoiled meat, fruits and vegetables we wanted to prevent a way for everybody to be able to keep their families safe. Sulfur which is very abundant in the world and when diluted with water is extremely safe. Farmers use sulfur to keep peaches from getting brown spots on them. When it is placed on a cotton swab it makes for the perfect way to test meat. While handheld devices can cost in the thousands of dollars, the Taste Fresh Test Strips only cost pennies to make. They could be sold in almost any store and almost anybody can use them.
