Team Description:
We’re a home-based, all-girl FLL team from Wisconsin. Our ages range from 10 to 13 and we do team building activities at every practice. This has made us grow closer and feel like sisters, not just friends. The team has really enjoyed being part of the Senior Solutions challenge. We talked with lots of seniors and experts in the field to learn about what it is like to be a senior citizen. This is our last season in FLL and we were excited to receive the Programming Award at our State Tournament. We are looking forward to sharing our experience and knowledge with others next year when we do lots of volunteering and mentoring.

Brief Submission Description:
1/3 of all seniors will have some kind of fall in the next year and half of those falls will go undetected and unreported. Our team has developed a bracelet that can not only detect falls, but can notify emergency personnel that a senior has fallen. There is an accelerometer and Bluetooth built into the bracelet. The accelerometer can detect when a fall occurs and the bracelet “talks” to a smartphone using a Bluetooth connection. The team also designed a smartphone app that will place a call to emergency personnel when a fall is detected. The senior will be able to talk to them using a Bluetooth speaker phone that is also built into the bracelet.
