Team Description:
Our “Burr Robodog” team is made up of 11 students. We have 2 teammates from 6th grade, 8 from 5th grade & 1 from 4th grade (he trained but did not compete). This was the 3rd FLL year for 1 member, 2nd year for 2 members & the remaining 8 members were all rookies! We met twice a week to practice on our Robotic challenges & once a week on our Senior Challenge project. We were fortunate to get the guidance of 2 senior citizens and one of them was the great-grandfather of one of our team members!Our 2nd senior partner was the neighbor of another team member. Both senior partners were in their 80's & we enjoyed talking to them & learning about how life was when they were young.Our head coach was our robotic coach & is the father of one of our team members.Our Project coach is the mother of two of our members who are twins!We also had a mentor from our very own Thunder Chickens team to mentor us with our Robot.We had a lot of fun & had an incredible season! Brief Submission Description:
The problem we chose to tackle was that senior citizens lose their driving license because of health reasons such as bad eyesight, bad reflexes etc. Due to this they are not able to go anywhere without a car and have to get the help of family and friends. These problems prevent them from being independent engaged and connected with the outside world.
Our Innovative solution was to create a new channel on TV called “My Channel”. “My Channel” can be personalized to meet your needs. Our design allows senior citizens who cannot drive to:
1. Purchase their groceries, medicines.
2. Manage their health
3. Manage their banking
4. Manage Transportation
5. Meet Emergency needs
6. Provide Reminders.
The specialized remote is designed to make it easy for senior citizens to move around “My Channel”. The remote has a specialized thumb scan technology that will act as a security check. You can also scan your bank card and checks for Deposits and Withdrawals.
