Team Description:
We are a second year neighborhood team made up of three friends who attend three different schools: Catlin Gabel School, Oregon Episcopal School, and Village Home Resource Center. We are tied together by our common interests. We all love math and science. We all play baseball and we are all musicians. And we all think robots are too cool. We placed 2nd overall (Champions Award) in our Qualifying Tournament and placed 2nd in Robot Design: Strategy & Innovation at the Intel Oregon FLL State Championship! Our project idea came from our research about the challenges senior citizens face every day. We interviewed many senior partners, EMTs (emergency medical technicians), an orthopedic surgeon, and technology entrepreneurs. The more we learned, the more excited we got! Our goal is to develop a practical invention that will save senior lives and help seniors remain independent.

Brief Submission Description:
Our FLL Senior Solutions project research revealed that 20-30% of seniors fall each year, not counting reoccurring falls. An undetected fall or slow emergency response can mean serious complications or even death for a senior. Even with all of the aids currently available to seniors, there is no one solution that can prevent accidents or falls caused by one or more common senior conditions. Our solution, the Medical Integrated Care Assistant (MICA) is a SmartWatch that coordinates quick and effective medical response, EVEN WHEN A SENIOR IS NON-RESPONSIVE OR INCAPABLE OF INITIATING EMERGENCY RESPONSE due to injuries or medical conditions. MICA has additional features that facilitate senior medical care and help them remain independent.
