Team Description:
Our Team, The All Stars, had six members with age groups varying from 11 to 13 years old. Every team member was assigned some specific roles and responsibilities like researcher, manager, etc. We participated in the qualifying round at Livermore, CA and regional round at Newark, CA in 2012-2013. Our team earned first prize in innovative idea during the regional competition. Our team also earned best project award in the qualifying round. As part of this project work, we visited couple of senior housing communities to demonstrate our game to them. Based on the feedback, we improved our game for our project. We visited senior housing in other countries and learned about the problems they face in daily life so that we could accommodate it into our project and game. We also volunteered at Family Giving Tree during Christmas time to help less fortunate people. Overall we had great fun working as a team and learned a lot from each other.

Brief Submission Description:
As a team we decided to tackle the memory loss problem among seniors. We found that a fun and easy-to-play game was an effective solution to address the memory loss problems. We have created a portfolio of games that the seniors would love to play but for our first game, we decided to create a puzzle called “Memory Maker”. This game upon starting lets the seniors to choose between household items or their family pictures to play. The puzzle levels help the seniors to gradually progress from simple to more complex ones. By including video and audio in our puzzle game, we increased the impact of remembering an item or a loved one from just a picture to something more livelily and bringing back memories. This game is played on touchscreen monitors hence eliminating the need for seniors to be technology savvy. To avoid joint pains and eye strain, we also incorporated a simple exercise video that pops up on the screen after a certain time or games that the seniors can simply follow.
