Brief Submission Description:
Our research has shown that fresh produce contamination is one of the main culprits of foodborne outbreaks causing more than 5 million illnesses and 1300 deaths yearly in US only. The reason is the harmful bacteria that may be in the soil or water where produce grows, coming in contact with plants and contaminating them. Our team designed FROZONIZER- a device integrated into vegetable crisper of refrigerators that kills those pathogens using OZONE. A high voltage transformer is used to generate ozone. The user only needs to place produce inside the crisper, set the timer and that's it. Frozonizer will generate ozone inside the crisper that kills bacteria and after that all excessive ozone transforms to oxygen form leaving no residue. We've done series of experiments at Penn State University to prove the effectiveness. It's easy to use, cheap to produce, energy efficient and safe-not exceeding FDA standards of 0.005ppm in air.
